I have several. I associate Charles Chesnutt’s “The House Behind The Ceaders” with Final Fantasy X because that’s what I played while I was “reading” it. I associate Mark Twain’s “Puddin’head Willson” with international plane travel and my trip to Japan. So what have you watched/read/listened to that you associate with something?

I can’t listen to “Step” by Vampire Weekend without thinking of my 18-hour ride from Oklahoma City to the middle of Arizona in the summer of 2014.

I associate pretty much the entirety of Eve 6’s self titled album with Zelda: Ocarina of Time on N64. When the game came out I was obsessed with both it and that CD too, and I’m pretty sure I just had the album playing on repeat while I poured hours of my life into that game.

Which reminds me, I need to order a new power cord for my N64. Also, I think I’ll listen to some Eve 6 on the way into work tomorrow.

I always think of the summer on the lake with my friends when “Time to Pretend” by MGMT is on. Those were the days.

Single File “Zombies ate my neighbors” to the time I lived in Colorado.

The band Garbage to Gran Turismo.

Millencolin’s “no cigar” to playing Tony Hawk in my parents basement as a teenager.

Guitar Hero 2 to being a bachelor living with my best friends from high school, after turning 21 and drinking too much too often.

for some strange, obscure reason, I associate one of Britney spears album to the ‘AIRBORN” trilogy written by Kenneth Oppel.

When I hear any vampire weekend I think about being drunk, thristy, and hot when I went with my friend to see them at jazzfest.

Alanis Morissette’s song “Thank U” [sic] reminds me of picking myself up again after reaching the nadir of a major depressive episode in 12th grade, roughly 11 years ago this month. It was a very dark time (obviously) that included two nights in an inpatient care facility, but things got better, so I think of the song in a positive way.

Tokyo Police Club’s 2008 album Elephant Shell is and will forever be the soundtrack to my junior/senior years of high school.

Whenever I hear any Vampire Weekend, I think of those two poor Saabs that were torched in that music video...

Always, which is a problem for me if a song or place is associated with a person that I no longer interact with.
